Always

“Always” was created as part of a narrative portrait of Bon Jovi that examined in part the obsession of fandom. I believe I was the model in this painting… - Bethany Vanderputten

Arise

Rise from the dust O Jerusalem. Sit in a place of honor. Remove the chains of slavery from your neck, captive Daughter of Zion. Isaiah 52:2

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting original paintings from my new collection "REMEMBER THE ADVENTURE: A Tribute to Mariah Carey". 'Arise' is only the beginning of what's coming in 2011. I hope you enjoy the journey!

Emmy

She sees shooting stars and comet tails
She's got heaven in her eyes
She says I don't need to be an angel
But I'm nothing if I'm not this high

- Counting Crows "Recovering the Satellites"

And just for fun, here's a concept poster for next year's awards:

Venus de Milo

There is only one statue that has ever stopped me in my tracks and made me drop my jaw in awe... this is my small tribute to the masterpiece. Sold.

Winged Victory

"Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt, Sold.

Echoing Him

This is a close-up view of a very horizontal blog header I recently painted! It was an interesting design challenge to both leave room for text and match my painting with existing web site colors.

Alice Margaret Scott

I recently completed this personal project, a portrait of my Grandma who passed away last year on my 30th birthday. It's hard to describe in words how much a wonderful person can impact your life, perhaps the painting can do the explaining.

"But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.

"Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled: 'Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?'
" - 1 Corinthians 15:51-55

The original is 24"x30" acrylic on canvas.

Red Sea

"It was by faith that the people of Israel went right through the Red Sea as though they were on dry ground. But when the Egyptians tried to follow, they were all drowned." - Hebrews 11:29 NLT
